The “Toronto Blue Jays” is a professional Canadian baseball team situated in Toronto, Ontario. The team is part of the East Division, which plays in the American League (AL) of the Major League Baseball (MLB Tickets). Recently, the team plays their home games at the Rogers Centre.
Originally, the name “Blue Jays” was instigated from a bird of the same name. Also, blue is the traditional color of most professional sport teams in Toronto, including the Maple Leafs (also known as the Ice Hockey) and the Argonauts. The team was wholly owned by the Labatt Brewing Company, the company was also known as the maker of the famous beer called Labatt’s Blue.
Established in the year 1977, the Toronto Blue Jays were founded as an expansion team in Toronto, Ontario. The team was first based at the Exhibition Stadium, but later moved their home games at the SkyDome at the time of its launching in the year 1989. A new ownership was bestowed in the year 2000 under the Rogers Communications. After 4 years, the Rogers Communications then purchased the SkyDome and renamed it as the Rogers Centre.
For the record, the Toronto Blue Jays are the second Major League Baseball (MLB) team to be situated outside the United States and currently the lone team to be based outside the United States after the Montreal Expos moved to Washington, D.C and changed their name as the Washington Nationals.
Apart from the success of finally being granted with an MLB franchise team placed in Toronto, the Toronto Blue Jays had been through a lot of struggles in meeting the standards of a typical expansion team. In fact, they actually ended in the last place in the division. The team achieved its first victorious season dated back in the year 1983, two years after their first winning season, the Toronto Blue Jays became the Division champions.
