Seattle Sounders FC is an American professional soccer club from Seattle, Washington. The name ‘Sounders’ was made out from an online poll voting of the supporters. The team competes in the Major League Soccer (MLS) and is the 15th franchise in the league.
On November 13, 2007, the team was awarded for an MLS expansion franchise and was officially aired as the ‘Seattle Sounders FC’ on April 7, 2008, held at the Space Needle, together with the announcement of their team logo, badge design and colors. The logo resembles the Space Needle, a recognized Seattle trademark. Its official team colors are Sounder Blue which means the waters of the Puget Sound; Cascade Shale, representing the Cascade Range to the east of the Seattle; and Rave Green, showing the forests of the Pacific Northwest. Upon announcing the name of the team, Hanauer honored the significance of keeping its tradition.
The majority club’s owner is Joe Roth, with minority owners Paul Allen, Adrian Hanauer and Drew Carey while Sigi Schimid, the two-time MLC Cup winner, is the head coach of the team. Home matches of Seattle Sounders FC were played at the Century Link Field. ‘Sound Wave’, a 53-member of marching band supports the club every home match. The MLS Clubs Portland and Vancouver are the rivalries of Seattle Sounders FC’s in the Cascadia Cup.
The Seattle Sounders FC started playing in the year 2009. The team was held as one of the bestsellers in the MLS for a sold out tickets in each of their games . On August 5, 2009, the team joined a friendly match with FC Barcelona covering 66,848 audiences and fans. And lately broke a record of 67,052 fans in Manchester United. On September 2, 2009, Seattle Sounders FC became the second MLS expansion team to win the U.S Open Cup tournament in the first season next to Chicago. The team finished the season, totaling 12 wins, 7 loses and 11 draws.
During the 2010 season, the number of ticket holders was increased to 32,000. The first match was held in CenturyLink Field, hosting a new MLS expansion team, Philadelphia Union. On October 10, 2010, in the latter half of the season, the team had a 2-1win which was held in Kansas City. The team ended the second season with a record of 14 wins, 10 loses and 6 ties. The club broke again its record, covering 36,173 audiences per match.
The Seattle Sounders FC finished the season, having the second-best record in the league at 18 wins, 7 loses and 9 draws, and was qualified for the playoffs in its third consecutive year. On October 4, 2011, in front of the crowd of 35,615 in CenturyLink Field, Seattle Sounders achieved its third consecutive U.S Open Cup, defeating the Chicago Fire with a score 2-0.
Seattle Sounders FC Club achieved their fourth U.S Open Cup Title, won against the Philadelphia Union in extra time with a score of 3-1. During the final game on October 25, 2014, the team defeated the LA Galaxy with a score of 2-0. And in the 2014 playoffs, Seattle Sounders FC won over FC Dallas in the Western Conference Semi Finals, made it to play again over La Galaxy in the Conference Finals. Although the club surpassed the semifinals against the LA Galaxy, they failed during the final rounds.
